Update, 3:26 p.m.:

A person stabbed Friday night did not suffer their wounds in the Salinas Riverbed area and instead fabricated part of his account of the incident, Paso Robles police said Saturday.

Investigators believe that the stabbing victim was in a vehicle with a “female acquaintance,” Katelyn Coffey, 29, from Paso Robles. The two had an argument and Coffey is believed to have “stabbed the victim multiple times, before dropping him off at Walmart,” police said.

The stabbing was in rural Paso Robles, according to police.

“Detectives worked throughout the night and into the early-morning hours, following several leads,” Paso Robles police Sgt. Steve Boyett wrote in a second news release. “As it turns out, the victim fabricated the events which led to his stabbing.”

Coffey was arrested Saturday morning and is in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Her bail is set at $25,000.

In addition, the Paso Robles Police Department “intends to pursue charges against the victim in this case for his false report of facts that led to wasted time and resources.”

The man’s name had not been released as of late Saturday afternoon.

Paso Robles police officers responded to separate reports of a drive-by shooting and a stabbing Friday night, with one person hurt and investigators still looking for suspects.

About 7:20 p.m. officers were dispatched to a Walmart in Paso Robles for someone who suffered three stab wounds in an incident at the Salinas Riverbed but was able to walk to the store for help.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the news release said.

Officers describe the suspect as a “transient male wearing a baseball cap white shirt and blue jeans,” according to a news release from Paso Robles police Sgt. Steve Boyett.

Pair shot at in drive-by near Rite Aid

An hour later, dispatchers responded to the shooting incident at the Rite Aid parking lot on Spring Street.

According to the news release, two people were standing along the street when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired multiple rounds but did not hit either person.

Both investigations are ongoing, with the Paso Robles Police Department requesting anyone with information to call the agency at 805-237-6464 or respond to their anonymous hotline at 805-549-STOP (7867).
