Highway 1 reopens near Big Sur after storm hits Central Coast
A major stretch of Highway 1 officially reopened to the public at noon Monday following a powerful rainstorm that pummeled the Central Coast, Caltrans said.
The agency closed the highway along the Big Sur coastline on Saturday after the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Colorado and Dolan Fire burn scars.
The highway was closed at Ragged Point on the south end and Palo Colorado Road on the north end.
Now that the scenic roadway has reopened, travelers can anticipate traffic controls for the next several days, according to a news release from Caltrans.
The agency said drivers may encounter delays at Paul’s Slide during working hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
Maintenance crews will be clearing out storm debris from behind the protective and catchment barriers along Highway 1, the release said.
Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes, Caltrans said.
