Arroyo Grande completes Tally Ho Road restriping project, adding bike lanes
Arroyo Grande commuters may notice a change in their daily drive this week.
The city finished a restriping project on Tally Ho Road between James Way and Highway 227, a news release from the city said.
The changes to Tally Ho Road, located north of the Arroyo Grande Village, include the removal of parking spaces on the north side of the road, the addition of two buffered bike lanes — similar to those found in downtown San Luis Obispo — and a reduction in the width of the vehicle travel lanes, the news release said.
“The ultimate goal of the restriping project is to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance safety in this residential neighborhood,” the city said.
While the improvements have been completed, the news release said the city’s engineering staff will also add a dashed yellow center stripe to the road, and will modify some of the “bulb-out striping” to create a more gradual curve.
These changes will be completed by Friday, the release said, weather permitting, and message boards will be placed at both ends of altered street segment to alert drivers to the changes.
The Tally Ho Road restriping is part of Arroyo Grande’s Community Development Department Local Road Safety Plan, which was adopted by the City Council on Jan. 25 as part of a speed management countermeasure plan, the release said.
Questions or concerns about the project can be directed to City of Arroyo Grande City Engineer Robin Dickerson at (805) 473-5441 or rdickerson@arroyogrande.org, the release said.
