Missing person rescued from ‘inaccessible beach’ near Pirate’s Cove

A missing person was rescued near Pirate’s Cove on Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The 17-year-old from Bakersfield was stable and evaluated by medics at the time of the rescue, Port San Luis Harbor Patrol District Chief Matt Ashton said.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the man’s family on Tuesday at about 6 p.m. to report him missing, according to the news release.

Sheriff’s deputies found his car in the Pirate’s Cove parking lot, but were unable to locate the man on Tuesday night, according to Ashton.

Sheriff’s deputies searched “the area on foot as well as with a drone with infrared capabilities,” the news release said.

At 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the man was located, the news release said.

He was found stuck on an “inaccessible beach,” Ashton said, but he didn’t know the exact time of day or how the man got to the beach.

Harbor Patrol transported a Cal Fire rescue swimmer to the beach in its boat. The swimmer rescued the man and brought him to the boat, which then transported him to the pier to be evaluated by medics, Ashton said.

He has been reunited with his family, according to the news release.

SLO City Fire also assisted with the rescue.
