Morro Bay Lighted Boat Parade postponed due to wind and rain

Morro Bay postponed its annual Lighted Boat Parade due to Saturday’s forecast for rain and heavy wind, according to Morro Bay Harbor Patrol staff.

The parade will now be held on Dec. 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., according to the city’s website.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, Morro Bay is expecting rain and 15 to 25 mph winds, causing Morro Bay Harbor Patrol to recommend that the Rotary Club postpone the event, Harbor Patrol staff said.

If harsh weather conditions continue on Dec. 10, the event will be canceled for the year, according to Harbor Patrol staff.

Regardless of the weather, Morro Bay still plans to host other holiday festivities this weekend.

Morro Bay will still hold its holiday tree-lighting celebration on Friday as it’s not supposed to rain that day, according to Morro Bay recreation supervisor Angelica Japsen.

“I’m hoping that the rain gods still love me,” Japsen said with a laugh.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. in Morro Bay City Park, including holiday festivities such as a visit from Santa Claus and performances. Staff will light the tree at 5 p.m., according to the website.

The city will also host Breakfast with Santa on Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Morro Bay Community Center, according to the city website. The event is held inside, so it will be unaffected by the weather, Jaspen said.
