Woman injured in 30-foot fall from bluffs on UC Santa Barbara campus

A young woman suffered major injuries Wednesday night in a fall from the bluffs on the UC Santa Barbara campus.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. to the beach below the Manzanita Village residence hall on the southwest edge of UCSB’s main campus, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The 18-year-old woman, who was discovered by people walking on the beach, fell approximately 30 feet from the bluffs, Safechuck said.

The circumstances of her fall were not known.

The woman was taken by Fire Department ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Her name and details on her condition were not available as of Wednesday night.
