4-car crash on Highway 101 blocks traffic through Santa Maria

Update, 10:25 a.m.:

All three southbound lanes have been cleared as of 10:03 a.m., and traffic is flowing, according to CHP.

Original Story:

Four vehicles were involved in a collision on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Exit 171 in Santa Maria around 8:26 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was backing up traffic into San Luis Obispo County as the incident blocked southbound traffic.

CHP is advising drivers avoid that portion of Highway 101 while the vehicles are being cleared.

One vehicle involved in the collision was overturned on its roof, and tow trucks have been dispatched, according to CHP.

The extent of injuries suffered by any of the parties involved is still unknown at this time.
