A 32-year-old San Luis Obispo man died Friday night after he lost control of his car and crashed while traveling north on Highway 101 in Paso Robles, according to the CHP.

The crash occurred at 10:34 p.m. north of Highway 46 West when for an unknown reason the driver’s 2000 Nissan Pathfinder began to drift left from the No. 1 lane over the solid yellow line while traveling at about 65 mph, the CHP said in a news release.

The driver tried to correct and swerved across the fast lane into the slow lane before correcting again to the left, which caused the vehicle to lose traction and slide toward the dirt shoulder. It then traveled down an embankment, overturned, hit a chain-link fence and rolled several times.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The man’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The CHP said drugs and alcohol are not considered a factor in the collision.
