The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred early Monday morning on Highway 41.

Los Osos resident Justin William West, 20, died in the rollover crash south of Bear Ridge Road, past the Cerro Alto Campground on the way to Morro Bay, the CHP release said.

West was traveling southbound on Highway 41 toward the coast when he left the southbound lane, traveled across the northbound lane and drove off the side of the road, the release said.

West’s 2001 Chevrolet overturned, coming to rest down a short dirt embankment near the edge of private property.

West was unrestrained by a seatbelt and was “fully ejected” from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene when CHP arrived at around 6:40 a.m., though the cause and time of the crash are still unknown.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP’s San Luis Obispo office at 805-594-8700.
