Toby Keith and other celebs coming to Paso Robles for cancer charity event
Country music star Toby Keith is coming to Paso Robles to receive an award at a charity event for cancer survivors — and several sports and music celebrities will be there as well.
The appearance is part of the “Strike Out” event on Sunday and Monday, hosted by former Major League Baseball pitcher Bret Saberhagen’s SabesWings nonprofit to support families struggling under the financial burden of cancer treatment, according to a news release from SabesWings.
Keith will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from SabesWings for his contributions to cancer research and treatment through his Toby Keith Foundation and the OK Kids Corrall, which provides housing for families with children going through cancer treatment.
The Sunday night festivities will be held at Rava Wines and will feature dinner, music and the awards presentation, starting with a cocktail reception at 4 p.m.
Among those performing will be Patrick Davis, a singer-songwriter who has written and produced songs for Lady Antelbellum, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Jewel, and his fiance and fellow singer-songwriter, Lauren Jenkins.
Keith isn’t the only celebrity slated to attend “Strike Out,” the release said.
Saberhagen, a former MLB World Series MVP, and his wife, Kandace, who started SabesWings, will be there as well, along with singer-songwriter Colt Ford, who performed at the Mid-State Fair this year; former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon; former San Francisco Giant Chili Davis; former MLB pitchers Billy Swift, Scott Erickson, Jeffrey Fassero and Michael Timlin; and actor Alexander Ludwig (“The Hunger Game,” “Vikings”) among other celebrity athletes and representatives from the music industry, the release said.
The following day, event attendees will head to the Hunter Ranch Golf Course for a golf tournament, cooking class, mixology class and golf awards, the release said.
Last year, the event raised half a million dollars for the organization, the release said.
Tickets are available at SabesWings, sabeswings.org/events-2, for $500 for an individual package, $750 for golf and dinner or $4,500 for a table for 10.
