2 people rescued after getting stuck on the side of a cliff near Ragged Point
Cal Fire rescued two people who got stuck on a cliffside near Ragged Point on Aug. 30.
The hikers had trekked 200 feet below a scenic viewpoint near mile marker 72 on Highway One — about half a mile south of Ragged Point, Cal Fire Captain Eva Grady said. They got stuck at about 3:40 p.m.
No one was injured, but they were scared to hike back up the cliffside, Cal Fire Captain Tim Berget said.
“They were too afraid to move in fear of falling down to the bottom, so we assisted them back up to the road,” Berget said.
Firefighters directed them to a small game trail, and the stranded explorers were able to hike out on their own, according to Cal Fire Public Information Officer Toni Davis. An ambulance was on standby, but it wasn’t needed, she said.
The hikers made it back to the road without injuries, Davis said.
