Car erupts in flames after crashing at Mission Plaza in SLO

A car caught fire after crashing into Mission Plaza early Tuesday morning, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said in a Facebook post. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Officers believe the driver lost control of the car trying to navigate the turn from Monterey Street onto Chorro Street around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, the post said. The car hit the landscape wall and entrance bollard.

SLOPD and San Luis Obispo Fire Department both responded to the crash as the car was engulfed in flames.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, and drugs or alcohol do not seem to be a factor.
