Construction begins on new roundabout in Paso Robles. Here are the detours
The City of Paso Robles has started a long-planned project to replace the four-way stop at the intersection of Golden Hill and Union roads with a roundabout.
The intersection at Golden Hill and Union closed Monday so construction can begin on the project, capital projects engineer Ditas Esperanza told The Tribune in an email.
Motorists traveling on Union Road looking to access Golden Hill Road will be rerouted to Ardmore Road, according to a city news release.
The project started this summer and will go until late 2023, the release said. The intersection at Golden Hill and Union will be closed for the duration of the project.
The vision for the roundabout at Golden Hill and Union was approved by the city as part of its Circulation Element in 2011, the release said. Last year, gas and cable lines were relocated in anticipation of the construction project.
The City Council opted to close the intersection and implement detours for motorists instead of keeping the intersection open, the release said. Closing the intersection will cut the construction time in half and should save taxpayers around $1 million, the release said.
“My family is really looking forward to the completion of this much-needed project,” Paso Robles resident Trisha Butcher said in the news release. “That area has had its fair share of crashes and confusion on whose turn it is. This will be a great asset to the area with traffic moving more fluidly. Small price to pay with detours by having a safer intersection.”
