A fire badly damaged a home in Nipomo on Wednesday.

Shortly after noon, firefighters responded to a call about a fire at the house in the 300 block of North Burton Street.

By the time they arrived, the structure was “fully involved,” according to radio traffic.

Firefighters worked to ventilate the flames and searched the home for residents. By 1:04 p.m., they had extinguished the fire, according to a Cal Fire tweet.

The single-story home was occupied by a man and his two dogs.

The man was away from his house when the fire started, but he had left his dogs at home. One of the dogs was rescued from the home, but the other has not been found, Cal Fire public information officer Capt. Adan Orozco told The Tribune

The inside of the home and its contents were “substantially damaged,” and the exterior of the home sustained “major damage,” Orozco said.

The home is located between Sea Street and Bee Street, according to Pulse Point. The fire could be seen from Nipomo High School.
