A produce truck trailer crashed on Highway 101 just north of Highway 166 early Friday morning after the it struck a guardrail, overturned and blocked a northbound lane.

The crash happened in San Luis Obispo just north of the San Luis Obispo County line, according to a news release from California Highway Patrol.

Around 4:40 a.m. Friday morning, the driver made an unsafe turn and the truck hit the guardrail on the right shoulder, according to the CHP release.

The impact propelled the truck across the northbound lanes, where it then struck the center median and overturned, blocking the first northbound lane of Highway 101, the release said.

The trailer is too heavy with produce to be tipped upright. Instead, the produce needs to be offloaded first, the CHP said. As of 11 a.m., crews were still working at the scene.

The driver of the produce truck was Victor Gonzalez of Homeland, California. He was transported to Marian Medical Center with minor injuries, the release said.
