Watch dramatic video of CHP helicopter rescuing person from Big Sur beach

A CHP helicopter crew came to the rescue of a person who had fallen on a rocky stretchy of the Big Sur coast on Wednesday afternoon, video from the Highway Patrol shows.

The person was stranded after falling on Sand Dollar Beach near the Plaskett Creek Campground a few miles north of Gorda, according to a Facebook post by the CHP Coastal Division Air Operations.

The patient was hoisted from a rocky area on the south end of the public-access beach into the Highway Patrol’s H-70 helicopter, the video shows.

Then, the patient was flown to a flat grassy area on the bluff above the beach, according to photos on the CHP Coastal Division Air Operation’s Facebook page.

The person was then transferred to Mercy Helicopter 20 for further assistance.

No additional information on the condition of the person was immediately available.
