Air quality alert issued for dust blowing over Nipomo Mesa
Wind is kicking up plumes of dust and sand over the Nipomo Mesa and the Oceano Dunes, and sensitive residents are being urged to stay indoors.
Infants, children and adults with underlying respiratory or heart conditions should stay inside until the sand and dust plume passes, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District.
The blowing sand and dust is expected to last from 1 to 7 p.m., with the peak of the dust occurring from 2 to 6 p.m., according to the release.
Any outdoor activities should be rescheduled for a time when there is no visible dust, the release said. People should stay indoors and set any air conditioning or heating systems to recirculate.
