Want to go roller skating at Mission Plaza? A pop-up rink is coming to downtown SLO
Want to get your roller skating fix without having to drive out of town?
A pop-up roller skating installation is coming in May to San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza.
The rink will be installed from May 6-22 with music, a disco ball, flower-inspired decorations and skates for rent, according to Downtown SLO, the nonprofit that seeks to foster an economically vibrant downtown.
The event will be ticketed and limited to certain days and times. The idea is a collaboration between the city of SLO and the nonprofit.
Skating will take place on the following days and times.
▪ Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays: 3-7 p.m.
▪ Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 3-9 p.m.
▪ Sundays: 2-6 p.m.
Ticket information
Skaters will be admitted through the online ticketing via EventBrite.
Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets well in advance, as limited space is available each session, according to organizers.
Tickets will be available beginning Friday, April 15, and include skate rental, but attendees are welcome to bring their own skates.
The pop-up roller rink will be installed by All Year Sports Galaxy, which has set up similar facilities in cities all across the United States. The company was founded by Ukrainian Olympian Vadim Slivchenko, according to a news release.
The presenting sponsor for the event is Guaranteed Rate, Downtown SLO said, along with other sponsors including the San Luis Obispo Collection, Quaglino Properties & Roofing, and Wacker Wealth Partners.
The event will be promoted by The SLORoll, a nonprofit “dedicated to uplifting our community through creativity, roller culture and physical activity.”
Select sponsorship opportunities are still available, and those interested may reach out to events@DowntownSLO.com.
