Update: Santa Maria woman killed in crash during SLO County car chase

Update, 3 p.m.:

California Highway Patrol has released more details about a fatal car chase near Nipomo on Thursday morning.

According to an afternoon news release, CHP dispatch was notified of a pursuit at 8:30 a.m. involving a Honda Accord and the Guadalupe Police Department.

During the pursuit, the Honda was traveling southbound on Bonita School Road from Division Street when its driver, a 28-year-old Santa Maria woman, lost control of the vehicle on a turn.

The car swerved across the northbound lane and continued onto the dirt shoulder before crashing into a telephone pole, according to CHP.

Guadalupe police officers attempted live-saving measures, but the driver died from her injuries at the scene, according to CHP.

CHP is handling the investigation into the incident.

The driver’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

One person is dead after they crashed their car into a power pole during a police chase on Thursday morning south of Nipomo, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Alvarez.

The crash happened at around 8:35 a.m. near the intersection of Bonita School Road and Division Street, Alvarez said.

The individual was reportedly being pursued by Guadalupe police before they crashed into the power pole, Alvarez said.

The person who died has not yet been publicly identified.
