A young girl was hit and killed by an Amtrak Coast Starlight passenger train in Paso Robles late Monday afternoon, according to the Paso Robles Police Department.

The Police Department received multiple calls about the train incident just before 4:30 p.m.

The girl, who has been identified as 13-year-old Genesis “Geny” Guerrero, was reportedly with a group of three other people on the tracks, according to Cmdr. Caleb Davis. Although the train’s conductor allegedly attempted to alert the people of his approach, the girl did not move off the tracks, Davis said.

She was hit near 3500 Riverside Ave., which is near the intersection of Park and 36th streets on the west side of Paso Robles from Highway 101.

“This is just a tragic accident for all parties involved,” Davis said. “Our condolences go out to the family.”

Davis said the family was at the scene and notified of the death. The other individuals who were on the tracks with the girl at the time remained on scene and gave statements to the police, Davis said.

No drugs or alcohol were suspected to be involved, Davis said.

The Amtrak train was headed north from Los Angeles to Seattle, Davis said. As of 7 p.m., the train remained on the tracks near where the girl was hit.

“Our daughter lost her life in a tragic accident we are going to try to raise as much we can so that we and all the family can give her a beautiful goodbye, the goodbye that she deserves,” a GoFundMe for Guerrero says. It can be found online at bit.ly/GenyGuerreroFund.
