San Luis Obispo County Family Law Commissioner Erin Childs announced Friday she will run for a judge seat on the San Luis Obispo Superior Court.

Childs currently handles family law cases, which includes child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, domestic violence, divorce and other issues.

According to a news release Friday, Childs has two decades of experience in the law and ten years working in the Superior Court.

She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara and the San Joaquin College of Law.

Numerous judges support her bid, according to the release, including Judge Timothy Covello, Judge Jacquelyn Duffy and Judge Matthew Guerrero.

Three SLO County judge spots up for election in June

According to the San Luis Obispo County Clerk Recorder’s Office website, there are three judge seats up for election this June: Office 1, Office 10 and Office 12.

On Monday, Deputy District Attorney Mike Frye’s campaign strategist, Ryan Gardiner, confirmed Frye is running for the Office 12 seat, currently held by Judge Linda Hurst.

Hurst confirmed to the Tribune that she will be retiring at the end of her term, which ends January 3, 2023.

Childs meanwhile has filed paperwork to run for the Office 10 seat, which is currently held by Judge Dodie A. Harman.

As of Monday, it does not appear Harman has filed paperwork with the Clerk Recorder’s Office declaring an intention to run for re-election, though the website is subject to filing delays.

The deadline to file a declaration of intention with the local office is Feb. 9 for incumbents and February 14 for non-incumbents.

The Office 1 seat is also up for election and is currently held by Judge Gayle Peron. She has not declared whether or not she intends to run again, and no one else has yet filed to run for that seat.

As of Monday evening, Harman and Peron have not responded to a Tribune request for comment.
