The California Highway Patrol has identified the man who died in a New Year’s Eve crash on Highway 1 as 62-year-old Jerome A. Perry of San Luis Obispo.

The crash occurred at 7:22 p.m. at the San Luisito Creek Road cross between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay, the CHP said.

Perry was traveling southbound in his Chevrolet pickup truck when he turned left across the highway in front 38-year-old Gerardo Aldama of Santa Maria, who was driving northbound in a Hyundai Sonata.

Aldama applied his breaks but could not avoid the collision.

The front of his sedan hit the right side of Perry’s pickup truck. The truck immediately caught fire as a result of the collision.

Perry’s injuries were fatal, but Aldama was not injured in the crash.

CHP asks any witnesses to the crash to call 805-594-8700.
