Meet the first babies born in 2022 in San Luis Obispo County
San Luis Obispo County’s likely first baby of 2022 was a 6-pound, 10-ounce baby girl delivered at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
Blake Charlotte Bilsten was born to Kelsey and Jesse Bilsten at 3:44 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to hospital officials.
Instead of the inkblot footprint of the past, after a baby is born at a Tenet Health Central Coast Hospital, the nurse will place the newborn’s tiny feet on the CertaScan Technologies system, hospital officials said.
The CertaScan technology creates a digital record of the baby’s footprint, which allows hospitals, law enforcement agencies and parents to identify the baby in an emergency, hospital officials said.
The technology also prints a “Baby’s First Footprint” certificate for parents to take home, hospital officials said.
Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, which is also a Tenet Health Central Coast Facility, is the only other hospital in the area that has CertaScan technology in place, hospital officials said.
Blake Bilsten wasn’t the only baby born early on New Year’s Day.
Just 30 minutes after her, Carson Plescia took his first breath at Dignity Health’s French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. The 7-pound, 7-ounce baby was born to Michela and Scott Plescia at 4:04 a.m.
“The staff at French Hospital did such a wonderful job helping us ring in the New Year with our first child,” said mother Michela Plescia. “The doctors and nurses went above and beyond and our family is forever thankful for the help they provided in delivering our son.”
Just over the county line, Mateo Bolanos was born at 12:39 a.m. at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. The 5-pound, 3-ounce newborn measured 18.5 inches, according to a news release from Dignity Health. Mateo is the second child of Maria Cortes Vargas and Martin Bolanos and has an 8-year-old brother.
“We are very happy and grateful that everything turned out well and that the baby is healthy,” said Maria Cortes Vargas, Mateo’s mother, in the release.
