Overloaded electrical circuit sets Paso Robles garage on fire

File

Firefighters responded to a garage fire in the 1300 block of Larkspur Lane in Paso Robles early Wednesday morning.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services was called to the scene at roughly 12:48 a.m.

The team of 19 firefighters contained the blaze to the garage so the single-story residence suffered only moderate smoke damage, according to a news release from the fire department.

All residents were able to evacuate the home safely, according to the release.

From preliminary interviews with the family, the cause of the fire seemed to be an overloaded electric circuit, Battalion Chief Scott Hallett said, though he added they likely would not be able to definitely determine the cause.

“Electrical malfunctions, electrical equipment overloads are a pretty common source of fires in both residential and commercial fires,” Hallett said.

He added the blaze was not related to any holiday decor, and instead was likely due to appliances hooked up in the garage.

Paso Robles Fire sent two fire engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief to the fire, while two additional fire engines and another battalion chief from Cal Fire and a fire engine from Atascadero Fire also responded, according to the release.
