SLO County animal shelter has a dogsled team’s worth of huskies looking for homes

On Cedar, on Odin, on Stormy, on Shadow, on Sasha, on Everest ... on husky after husky. Indeed, if huskies could fly, the SLO County Animal Services’ shelter has enough adoptable mushers to pull Santa’s sleigh.

Being attractive on so many levels — yet not cut out for all lifestyles — the six above-named huskies are longing for lifelong homes.

The appeal of Siberian huskies is undeniable — as a breed they’re fun-loving, beautiful, and yearn for human companionship. But for all these strengths, they’re best suited for someone who enjoys a physically active life and is looking for a confident canine companion who wants to be with them wherever they go.

Cedar is our charming poster husky.

It’s hard not to put human characteristics to 2-year-old Cedar. He’s an affectionate boy who appreciates human attention, and his eyes smile when he’s happy.

He also expresses himself in other ways. Huskies are not much for barking, though they do howl and “chat” in such a way you could believe they’re talking.

Cedar knows how to walk on a leash and enjoys every moment exploring the great outdoors with a person; and though he’s happy to sit for a treat, he’s not above being mischievous, but in such a humorous way it’s hard not to laugh.

Need someone to get you going, make you chuckle, and yearn for more exercise in your life?

Our shelter huskies are ready to be your life coaches — run, play, laugh, love.
