75 tons of snow create Atascadero’s biggest Winter Wonderland ever

Thousands of people turned out Friday night as Atascadero celebrated the holiday season Friday night with its largest Winter Wonderland event ever, featuring the most snow in its 20-year history.

This year, a total of 75 tons of snow was used to create larger play areas and a bigger slide with four sled runs, built by the Kiwanis Club, Glacier Ice Co. and Premier Ag. That was 15 more tons than last year.

The snow-themed events also included Joe’s Little Train operated by the Elks Club, scooter demonstrations by A-Town Park and 805 Board shop, two Euro bungee jumps, an obstacle course, gladiator joust, bounce houses, face painting, and of course, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Performances from school music and dance groups and local bands rounded out the event along with 35 craft and food vendors.
