See smoke off Highway 1 in SLO County? Here’s what’s going on
Residents and travelers likely will see some smoke near the shore north of Cayucos on Monday.
Cal Fire planned to conduct a prescribed burn on about 4 acres of grassland in Estero Bluffs State Park.
The work was to begin as early as 7 a.m. at a location about 2.3 miles north of Cayucos, on the ocean side of Highway 1, according to a news release sent by California State Parks on Friday.
According to the release, the burn could begin to wrap up as early as noon, although crews often stick around for a while after the fire is contained and out to make sure there are no flareups.
Prescribed burns help State Parks and other wildland management agencies maintain the land, control weeds and potentially reduce the risk of wildfire.
As always, a change in weather conditions could postpone the work.
The parks agency works in cooperation with Cal Fire and the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control burn on the effort.
