SLO County gas prices are at an all-time high. Here are the cheapest spots to fuel up
Get ready for some pain at the pump if you’re filling up your car this week.
San Luis Obispo County, routinely home of some of the most expensive gas in the United States, broke its own record this week with gas prices topping $4.81 per gallon.
Those are the highest local fuel prices ever reported, although sources differ on exactly when the record was set.
According to the American Automobile Association, the county broke its all-time record on Sunday, with an average gas price of $4.856 per gallon.
In the following days, the county’s average gas price has fallen slightly below this high, with AAA reporting an average price of $4.855 for a gallon of gas on Tuesday.
According to AAA, San Luis Obispo County was the fifth most expensive metropolitan area in the country as of Tuesday.
According to GasBuddy.com, San Luis Obispo County broke its local record on Tuesday, with gas prices reaching an average of $4.812 per gallon.
That makes it the third most expensive metropolitan area in the United States, according to GasBuddy.
Only San Rafael ($4.870 a gallon) and San Francisco ($4.864 a gallon) were charging more per gallon as of Tuesday, the site said.

Fortunately, not every station in San Luis Obispo County is charging $4.81 or more for a gallon of gas.
