More than 5,000 SLO County residents lose power in outage

Thousands of PG&E customers lost power on Friday evening in a large outage that affected a big chunk of rural North County residents.

More than 5,500 customers east of Santa Margarita, Atascadero and Templeton saw their electricity go out starting at 4 p.m., according to PG&E’s power outage map.

The company had restored power to about 1,100 customers by 5:30 p.m., although more than 4,300 were still without electricity.

PG&E expected to restore all affected customers’ power by 10:30 p.m.

The utility company was investigating the cause of the outage.
