Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner train is adding a new round trip to SLO County
San Luis Obispo County travelers will soon have more options for getting to and from Southern California.
The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, which travels 351 miles of coastline with stops at rail stations in six counties between San Luis Obispo and San Diego, is expanding its service beginning on Oct. 25.
The schedule changes include a new round trip between San Diego and San Luis Obispo counties, revised departure times for more consistent connections and a single schedule for both weekdays and weekends, according to a news release from Amtrak.
The Pacific Surfliner has been operating under a reduced schedule due to coronavirus pandemic-related reductions in travel, though train service was partially restored in June, according to the release.
The October schedule changes build on the restoration of rail service this summer. It’s the largest schedule change to the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner in years, the release said.
“Passengers are encouraged to pay extra attention to their train numbers and departure times once the new schedules take effect,” according to the release.
