Highway 101 is still closed to L.A. Here’s how to get around the Alisal Fire
A stretch of Highway 101 remained closed both directions Tuesday morning due to the Alisal Fire in Santa Barbara County, cutting off traffic to Los Angeles.
Highway 101 was closed from just north of Goleta at Winchester Canyon Road to the junction with Highway 1 near Santa Ynez, according to Caltrans.
There was no estimate Tuesday morning as to when the road will reopen in either direction, the agency said.
Travelers were advised to take an alternative route — such as the main detour on Highway 154, according to Caltrans and the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management.
Drivers coming from the North County area of San Luis Obispo County can also take Highway 46 to Highway 5.
Drivers should expect heavier than normal traffic, the California Highway Patrol said via Twitter.
Meanwhile, the railway parallel to Highway 101 was also closed, affecting Amtrak travel in both directions, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
