A seven-car pileup on Highway 101 in southern San Luis Obispo County caused major traffic delays for northbound travelers on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol, Caltrans and Cal Fire.

The crash happened at about 7:55 a.m. Thursday on northbound Highway 101 near the 4th Street off-ramp in Pismo Beach, Caltrans said, causing a closure of the far left lane.

The highway was cleared and all lanes open by 10:40 a.m., according to Caltrans.

One person was moderately injured in the crash, Cal Fire wrote in a tweet Thursday morning.

Traffic was backed up about five miles from Fourth Street to past El Campo Road, Caltrans said.

Because of the crash, congestion was heavy throughout the Five Cities area as cars attempt to use alternate routes, the agency said.
