Update: Santa Maria teen mom and infant daughter found safe in North County
Update, 8:30 a.m. Thursday
A teenage mother and her infant daughter from Santa Maria were found Wednesday after having been reported missing Sunday, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Elena Garcia, 17, and Paola Ponce Garcia, 6-months, were found safe in San Miguel around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Garcia and her baby were not with 30-year-old Jaime Ponce as police had previously believed, according to a news release.
Ponce is the alleged father of Garcia’s daughter, according to the news release.
The Santa Maria Police Department said they are continuing to investigate Ponce’s relation to Garcia.

The Santa Maria Police Department is seeking help in locating an “at risk” teenager and her 6-month-old daughter.
Elena Garcia, 17, and her infant daughter, Paola Ponce Garcia, were last seen Sunday night in the 1500 block of South Wallis Avenue, near Minami Park, according to a Santa Maria Police Department news release.
The teen and her baby are believed to be accompanied by 30-year-old Jamie Ponce, the alleged father of Elena Garcia’s daughter, according to the release.
Garcia is described as a 4-foot-11 Hispanic woman with brown hair and brown eyes, the release said.
The Santa Maria Police Department is asking anyone with information about Garcia or Ponce’s location to call 805-928-3781, extension 2277.
