Atascadero home destroyed in early morning blaze, dog missing

A single-family home was destroyed in Atascadero early Monday morning.

According to Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services, emergency personnel responded to a two-alarm fire in the 5300 block of Vega Avenue just after midnight.

Upon arrival, they found a fully involved structure fire, the department said in a news release.

One resident was awake at the time of the fire, which helped in getting everyone out of the building safely, according to the release. No injuries were reported, but a dog that lived at the residence is still missing.

Crews had a difficult time getting water to the location to fight the blaze because of the distance from a fire hydrant, according to the release.

After about two hours, crews were able to fully control the fire, the release said. They remained at the scene until later Monday morning.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
