Update: The Pond Fire has grown to almost 2,000 acres; no containment

Update 9:03 p.m.

According to information from the CHP and CAL Fire dispatch the latest road closures near the Pond Fire are:

  • Heur Huero Rd. just south of Highway 58 to Parkhill Rd.
  • East Parkhill Road and Las Pilitas to West Pozo Rd.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Dept. advises evacuees go to the Santa Margarita Elementary School, 22070 H Street for shelter.

CAL Fire says anyone who needs large animal evacuations call the Horse Emergency Evacuation Team San Luis Obispo County (SLO HEET) at 805-550-0213.

Update 7:38 P.M.

The Pond Fire is now at almost 2,000 acres with no containment at this time, according to incident command scanner traffic. Residents are still being evacuated along Parkhill and Las Pilitas Roads.

Update 7:10 p.m.

Local residents are being evacuated by emergency personnel as the blaze has now grown to 400 acres, according to scanner traffic and CAL Fire tweets.

Original Story:

Firefighters are on scene of a fast-moving brush fire on Katacreek Road and Goldenpond Way east of Santa Margarita, according to radio traffic from fire personnel.

An incident command has been set up and crews are reporting the fire is at 50 acres with a potential to grow to 1,000 acres.

One structure has been burned and other structures are threatened, according to dispatchers. Evacuations are being organized in the area.
