Unemployment in San Luis Obispo County remained in the double digits in June, though the overall rate dropped.

The June unemployment rate fell to 11.5% from a revised 12.9% in May.

The county’s Department of Social Services Workforce Development Board reported 15,200 people were out of work in June, but that’s down from a revised May number of 16,800.

The latest local data from the Employment Development Department, announced on Friday by the county, cites a period before the latest order closing certain business sectors in SLO County, which is expected to affect the July numbers.

June rates dropped to 15.1% from 15.9% at the state level and to 11.2% from 13% nationally.

In June, SLO County ranked as the 12th lowest unemployment rate in the state.

June’s largest SLO County gains were in the leisure and hospitality industry, with 3,400 jobs added, totaling 14,000 countywide.

Government jobs dropped by 1,600, bringing the countywide total to 21,700.

Statewide, about 2.83 million people were out of work in June, compared with 3.04 million in May.
