Central Coast officers sent to Los Angeles as protests continue — including from SLO County

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies are sending deputies and officers to Los Angeles, as protests continue around the city.

According to a SLO County Sheriff’s Office news release Saturday night, agencies across the county were contacted by the California Office of Emergency Services with a request for mutual aid.

Like other cities around the United States, Los Angeles has seen a number of increasingly chaotic clashes between police and protesters this week, as many gathered to protest the death of a black man, George Floyd, in police custody.

A city-wide curfew was put into place Saturday night after reports of looting and vandalism at sites across Los Angeles. The California National Guard was also being called in Saturday night.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has sent 35 deputies to Los Angeles, according to a release.

The Atascadero Police Department is additionally sending five officers, the Paso Robles Police Department is sending three, and the Pismo Beach Police Department and Cal Poly Department are both sending two, according to the release.

The Sheriff’s Office said it will continue to coordinate resources with other local law enforcement agencies to provide further personnel to Los Angeles County if additional resources are requested.

Santa Barbara County law enforcement agencies are also sending personnel to Los Angeles.
