Fighter jets will do a SLO County flyover to honor healthcare workers. Here’s how to see them

Look to the skies late tomorrow morning, and you could spot a show of appreciation for front-line coronavirus workers.

The Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing will do a flyover across the Central Coast and Northern California on Wednesday to honor healthcare workers, first responders and essential personnel.

Four F-15C Eagle fighter jets will take off from Fresno at 10 a.m. and wind a path upward to Sacramento before pivoting down along the coast.

The planes are expected to fly over San Luis Obispo County around 11:20 a.m. A full schedule of their path is available on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/144thFighterWing/.

The flyover was not originally expected to come to the Central Coast, but a new map shared on the group’s Facebook page Tuesday evening showed an adjusted path over the area.

It was also originally expected to wind a path through Southern California as well, but organizers canceled that route because the U.S. Air Force is already planning a flyover in that region in the near future.

Flyovers are one of the latest ways groups are showing appreciation for front-line workers during the coronavirus pandemic; the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds and Navy’s Blue Angels did flyovers in New York City and parts of the Northeast in April.

People are still asked to not congregate in large groups to view the flyover, and should honor social distancing.
