Motorcyclist airlifted to Santa Barbara hospital after hitting tree in Highway 101 crash

A motorcyclist suffered major injuries Sunday after crashing into a tree in Santa Maria.

At 12:30 p.m., emergency workers from the Santa Maria Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response were sent to the scene on Highway 101 at the Stowell Road northbound offramp, according to dispatch reports.

An AMR ambulance took the rider to Marian Regional Medical Center’s helipad to be transferred onto a Calstar medical helicopter for transport to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

CHP officers from the Santa Maria area office were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
