SLO County is building 2 water storage tanks for fire protection, service
San Luis Obispo County’s Public Works Department is getting ready to start construction on two new storage tanks in Cayucos to improve water service reliability and ensure resources for fire protection to meet current compliance standards.
The agency is building two new 210,000-gallon water storage tanks to replace the existing 60-year-old tank at a site located west of Hacienda Drive, according to a news release.
Construction is expected to begin in May and will continue until project completion, which is expected in February 2021, county officials said.
The two tanks will increase water storage and provide a backup within the system for when a tank might be taken out of service for maintenance or repair, the county said.
Road closures and traffic delays aren’t anticipated, according to the county. But traffic control and street parking restrictions will be in place on Hacienda Drive to ensure vehicle access for construction and emergency use.
Construction hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays.
Vehicular and pedestrian access to Hang Glider Hill via Hacienda Drive will be prohibited during construction.
Hikers are advised to use Chaney Avenue for access.
John Madonna Construction Company, Inc., has been awarded the work contract for nearly $1.98 million, the county said.
The project is being funded partly by a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan.
