Paso Robles man killed in suspected DUI car crash into Napa pond, CHP says

A Paso Robles man was killed in a car crash early Thursday after the vehicle in which he was traveling drove off the road and became submerged in an irrigation pond, according to the CHP.

Chancellor Goforth, 30, of Paso Robles and Peter Onley, 27, of Napa were driving in a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser about 3:30 a.m. down a private roadway at 2253 Dry Creek Road when their vehicle left the road, according to a news release from the CHP’s Napa office.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove down an embankment and into an irrigation pond, where it became fully submerged.

The release does not indicate which man was driving at the time of the crash.

Onley extracted himself from the vehicle, but Goforth had to be removed by emergency responders, the release said.

Goforth was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, where he was pronounced dead, the CHP said.

The men weren’t wearing seat belts, and alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.
