2 more Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies test positive for coronavirus
A total of four Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies have tested positive for coronavirus, the agency confirmed Tuesday.
The first deputy to be tested was notified that they had a confirmed case of COVID-19 on March 27, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
A deputy who had ridden with the first patient began experiencing symptoms March 27 and sought medical attention, the Sheriff’s Office said. The following day, the second deputy reportedly tested positive.
The other two cases were unrelated from the first and from one another, according to the Sheriff’s Office
A custody deputy was tested for COVID-19 after their family member tested positive. On Sunday, their test returned positive as well.
The deputy was last worked at the main jail on March 26, the release said.
Another deputy who last worked March 18 began experiencing symptoms and decided to self-isolate immediately. The deputy was tested on March 26 and received results Monday that he had tested positive.
All deputies are at home recovering, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said it has been working with the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department to determine any risk to the public and other deputies. The agency also conducted a contact investigation and traced each of the deputies’ interactions with the public, inmates and coworkers.
No additional people have been identified or recommended for self-isolation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
