North County is getting new Panda Express and Taco Bell restaurants. Here’s where

Atascadero is getting a Panda Express restaurant along with its second Taco Bell — likely by the end of the year, a city official says.

The Chinese fast-casual spot will move into a space previously occupied by Pizza Hut at 7055 El Camino Real in the Vons shopping center, said Phil Dunsmore, community development director.

Panda Express has submitted plans to the city and will likely renovate the space this summer, Dunsmore said.

In addition, Taco Bell will open its second location in Atascadero near the intersection of El Camino Real and Del Rio Road, Dunsmore said.

The fast-food chain will build a new restaurant and has submitted construction plans, he said. However, road improvements must be made in the area, and there’s no estimated opening date for the new eatery.

Dunsmore said he’s pleased to see the new restaurants coming to the city, and he’s confident additional sit-down restaurants will be setting up shop as development continues downtown.

“We’re hoping for some good quality sit-down stuff, but that’ll come when La Plaza’s finished,” he said.
