SLO County men who went missing during Sierra Nevada trip found

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office located two men from Atascadero who didn’t return as expected Monday in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains.

Calum Gower and Cameron Goldensmith, both 20, were expected back from the trip Monday in order to report to work on Tuesday, according to social media posts. They were located around 2 p.m. on Tuesday near the Johnsondale area, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The pair, who were “in good health,” were in the area because their car had become stuck in the snow in the mountains off the road.

A Facebook comment posted by someone identifying himself as the owner of the cabin wrote Tuesday that the pair said Monday afternoon that they were going exploring.

“We are afraid they are broke down while up 4 by 4 ing somewhere,” Jason Jpaints Brock wrote. “The driver was an avid off-road (driver) with lots of experience.”

The agency used its search and rescue team, as well as air support and deputies from the Kern Valley substation, the release said. The search was conducted from the Kernville area to Glenville area.
