Memorial planned for former assemblyman, SLO County supervisor Katcho Achadjian

Those wishing to pay their respects to former Assemblyman and San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Katcho Achadjian will have the opportunity to do so this week.

A memorial service for Achadjian is planned for Thursday at Mission San Luis Obispo De Tolosa in downtown San Luis Obispo, his family confirmed to The Tribune on Monday.

The service will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is open to the public.

A beloved Republican figure on the Central Coast, Achadjian served on the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors from 1998 to 2010, when he was elected to the California State Assembly. He served there for six years before being termed out of office in 2016.

Achadjian died March 5 from health complications at the age of 68.

His family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made “in memory of Katcho” to the Senior Nutrition Program of San Luis Obispo County and/or End Kids Cancer Foundation.

The city of Arroyo Grande, where Achadjian lived, announced Friday it will keep its flags at half mast through the end of his funeral services.

The city also started a memorial book for the Achadjian family in which community members can share memories of him. Those who wish to make an entry can do so at the Arroyo Grande City Hall at 300 E. Branch St.
