Pedestrian killed in San Luis Obispo car crash identified

Officials on Friday identified a man killed in a San Luis Obispo vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash, which they’re investigating as a possible suicide.

The fatal collision occurred at about 7:59 p.m. Thursday near Los Osos Valley Road and Foothill Boulevard, a CHP spokesman told The Tribune on Thursday night.

The CHP and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash as a potential suicide, Tony Cipolla, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said Friday.

David Chevalier Morgan, 59, of San Luis Obispo was killed after he apparently stepped in front of a moving vehicle on purpose, Cipolla said.

The CHP is investigating the crash, and the Sheriff’s Office is handling the death investigation, he said.

“There was no impairment or apparent distraction on the part of the driver,” Cipolla said via text message.

The incident was the second fatal nighttime collision involving a pedestrian in San Luis Obispo this month.

On Feb. 12, a collision in a construction zone on Tank Farm Road killed 52-year-old Michael Hamlin.
