He took a pic of a Pismo Beach sunset — and caught a proposal. Now he needs your help
When Britton Holland went on a walk in Pismo Beach on Jan. 25, he didn’t know he would witness more than an “amazing sunset” — or that he would be asking for the internet’s help in tracking down a newly engaged couple.
Holland, who hails from San Francisco, was in SLO County for a surprise birthday party and decided to go for a walk to take in the views along the cliffs behind Cottage Inn By the Sea.
“As we reached the coastal path, my brother’s girlfriend looked down to the beach below and said, ‘Is that a proposal?’” Holland wrote The Tribune in an email Monday.
Holland, who said he was “already photographing the amazing sunset,” tilted his camera down just in time to capture a man below dropping to his knee in front of a woman.
The photo he snapped shows a lens flare and sun beam pointing directly at the couple during what Holland said appeared to be a very happy moment.
“It sure looked undoubtedly to my group and others around us to be a proposal,” he wrote.
According to Holland, the couple hugged for a few minutes, but soon after, everyone left the area. That’s when Holland realized he was holding potentially the only photograph of what had just happened.
Holland posted the photo to Facebook two days later but has since had no luck locating the people in the photo, he said. He’s hoping increased attention could help him get the photo of their special moment to the pair.
“I hope serendipity steps in and the photo finds its way to them,” he told The Tribune.
