Pedestrian killed crossing Highway 101 in Santa Barbara

Update (12 p.m.): Southbound lanes have been reopened and traffic is proceeding as normal. The name of the pedestrian has not been released.

Original story: The coroner has been called out to a deadly pedestrian versus vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara on Friday night.

The crash occurred in the area of the La Cumbre Road offramp around 6:15 p.m., according to the CHP’s traffic incident report page.

According to the CHP, a pedestrian was walking across the roadway to the center divider when they were hit by a car.

The agency is enacting a hard closure of southbound lanes while they investigate the incident. The no. 1 lane was still open.

The coroner was called out to the scene, and the incident was listed as a fatality on the CHP incident report page.
