Honoring those who served: Volunteers place wreaths at Arroyo Grande veterans’ graves

If you’re passing by the Arroyo Grande Cemetery this month, you might notice some of the graves looking for festive than usual.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 982 and Boy Scout Troop 450, as well as community volunteers, laid 2,040 donated wreaths on the graves of veterans buried at both the Arroyo Grande and Halcyon cemeteries on Saturday.

The event was part of a national Wreaths Across America event that places wreaths on veterans’ graves at thousands of cemeteries across the United States, including Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The event remembers veterans from all U.S. wars, from the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts, according to its website.

The goal of the event is to remember those who served, honor those currently serving in the military and teach children about those who came before, according to the website.
