SLO County had a wet weekend. Here’s how much rain fell in your area
San Luis Obispo County got a light dousing of rain over the weekend, though it’s about to get a lot drier for the next two weeks.
PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey said most areas around the county got less than an inch of rain over the weekend, though some areas did experience heavier-than-usual rainfall in brief spurts.
“A lot of people were saying they were driving down the Cuesta Grade in the heaviest rainfall ever, and then it’s dry,” Lindsey told The Tribune on Monday. “That’s the way it is with convective showers.”
Convective rain is when water vapor in warm, rapidly-rising air masses condenses into water at a higher, cooler altitude and forms heavy, often sudden, rain showers.
Rocky Butte got the most rain in the county over the weekend, with 4.02 inches. Several monitors in North County reported between one and two inches of rain while most other areas reported an inch of rain or less.
Going forward, Lindsey said the wet weather will likely disappear for a few weeks in favor of warmer dry weather. Lindsey noted that temperatures will likely get back into the 70s around the county starting Thursday and Friday.
This will continue until the next potential rain event around Dec. 21 or 22, Lindsey said.
“Very lovely weather, especially for December,” he said. “A lot of other areas around the country would pay good money to have weather like that.”
